My Journey

Training Through Menopause - the back story
I love this photo of me (right) and my friend and training partner, Nikkie. We'd just completed a half ironman triathlon in France, and I think you can see how much fun we had! I'm the one on the right.

That happy smile hides a (what I thought then) was a devastating truth that I had failed myself. Despite all the training I'd done - and I followed my training plan religiously - I just didn't achieve what I set out to achieve. The time cut-off was 8 hours, and I came in at 8 hours and 3 minutes. Officially I was DNF'd, but they still let me have a medal and a t-shirt!

The thing that let me down? Nutrition. Pure and simple. I thought I'd done everything right. And to be fair, I did most of it right.
Here's another picture of me. There are things about this photo that I love, and things that I'm not so keen on, but which are really not very noticeable to other people.

This is the last lap of the run section of Bowood Middle Distance Triathlon. No-one told us the run was going to be quite so 'rural'. The most used term to describe it was 'brutal'. The weekend before, I'd had a fall and damaged my leg, arm and foot, so after all that training, it really wasn't a done deal that I'd get there at all.

As it happened, I did get there. And it was even slower and more painful.

But look at that face! That's the face of someone loving what they're doing. Do you see the signs of fatigue? No? Well that's because they're not there.

So what changed? My nutrition changed, that's what! And if you want to finish your next endurance event with a big smile on your face too, press this button to find ways to work with me.
